The Hae Hae Te Moana River is formed by the confluence of the Hae Hae Te Moana River North Branch and Hae Hae Te Moana River South Branch , around 7 km northwest of Geraldine . The two branches of the river have their origin in the up to 1587 m high mountain landscape between Geraldine in the east and Lake Opuha in the west. From the confluence of the two branches, the river moves south to merge with the Waihi River after about 22 km northwest of downtown Temuka and together form the Temuka River .
