geography
The Waihi River rises on the southern flank of the 1653 m high Tripps Peak , which is part of the North-South running Four Peaks Range and is located around 40 km north-northwest of Timaru . From its headwaters, the river first moves briefly in a southerly and then in an easterly direction, and then turns away in a south-easterly direction around 5 km after its source. About 10 km before the place Geraldine the river takes a southern course and crosses Geraldine in the middle of the place. After a further southern course, the Waihi River, about 2 km north-northwest of the city center of Temuka, together with the Hae Hae Te Moana River, form the Temuka River by confluence.
The New Zealand State Highway 79 crosses the river within the village of Geraldine .
