Count Hagen Lambsdorff

Hagen Freiherr von der Wenge Graf Lambsdorff (born December 20, 1935 in Berlin ) is a German journalist and diplomat .

Lambsdorff studied law , political science and journalism after leaving school .

After a traineeship he worked as a reporter for the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger , then moved to the Handelsblatt in 1965 as head of foreign policy and in 1968 as head of military policy at Spiegel .

Foreign service

In 1974 he switched to the Foreign Service. After holding positions as head of the cultural department in the Moscow embassy and as business envoy at the embassy in Washington, DC , he became the first ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Riga in 1991 in Latvia .

From 1999 to 2001 the German ambassador in Prague was in the Czech Republic . In the meantime he always took on internal tasks in the Foreign Office and was head of the foreign department of the Federal Press Office .

Origin and family

Lambsdorff comes from the ancient noble family Lambsdorff and is the father of the former EU member, since 2017 member of the Bundestag and FDP presidium member Alexander Graf Lambsdorff and a brother of the former Federal Minister Otto Graf Lambsdorff . He is married to his wife Ruth.
