The Hainrode tunnel is a railway tunnel on the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg in the area of the Hessian municipality of Ludwigsau . With a length of 5370 m, it is one of the longest tunnels on the high-speed route .

course

The structure accommodates two tracks that can be driven on as planned at 250 km / h.

The gradient rises to the south and then falls.

Mühlbachtalbrücke follows to the south and the Schalkenberg tunnel to the north . Immediately to the north, the Beisetal is crossed on a 250 m long and 5 to 7 m high dam.

history

planning

In the planning phase, the structure was in planning section 14 of the middle section of the new line. Around 1984 the structure was planned with a length of 5,370 m. At the beginning of 1984 a length of 5380 m was planned. The costs were calculated at 174.8 million DM.

In order to clarify whether the dam planned immediately north of the tunnel could impair the drainage of the local cold air, the German Weather Service was commissioned in October 1983 with a corresponding report, which was presented in 1984. Ultimately, an improvement through an elevation under consideration was not found.

construction

The building was divided into two equal length lots tendered and propelled by north and south parallel in contemporary Austrian Tunneling Method.

Construction work began in February 1984. The southern section of the structure was part of the Hainrode-Süd construction section , which comprised construction kilometers 171.670 to 177.006; The Mühlbach Tunnel (1697 m) and the Schmitteberg Tunnel (325 m) were also included in this award package. This phase of construction in July 1984 announced and on 29 October 1984 for a contract sum of 108,353,000 DM (net, without VAT , around 55.4 million Euro; price as of 1984) to the group of companies minor Ilbau and partners awarded.

The construction work was completed in 1988.

The structure was put into operation together with the high-speed line in June 1991.
