Haji Yakub Qureshi

Haji Yakub Qureshi ( Hindi : हाजी याकूब कुरैशी, Hājī Yākūb Kuraiśī ) is an Indian politician with an Islamist orientation. He is a cabinet member in the state of Uttar Pradesh .

In September 2011, Qureshi, a member of the state parliament from Meerut , was suspended from his party, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), for having made derogatory comments about the Sikhs when their slaughterhouse was inaugurated in Meerut.

When he was not nominated by the BSP for the 2012 elections, he switched to the Rashtriya Lok Dal party .

On January 8, 2015, Qureishi offered the attackers in the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris 51 crore Indian rupees (the equivalent of € 7.7 million) as a reward for their deed, as he promised in 2006. He justified it by saying that anyone who treated the prophet with disrespect deserved death. The act was fully justified because the magazine had mocked Islam several times. The deputy director general of the responsible police in Uttar Pradesh announced that he would examine these statements for their criminality under Indian law. Qureishi then denied having made the statements against which he was accused.
