Half altitude
As half altitude is called one after the Stuttgart downtown location group of residential areas , the round is determined by its topographical location on the slopes Nesenbachbucht (the Stuttgart basin is characterized). Due to its location, the Stuttgarter Halbhöhe is a preferred residential area, as it offers more views than the residential areas on the heights due to the hillside location.
geography
classification
According to the delimitation of the framework plan of the city of Stuttgart, the half-height locations cover around 811 hectares around the valley locations in the city center and take up around 5 percent of the area of the city. They are mostly at an altitude between 300 and 420 meters above sea level. NN. Around 75,000 inhabitants live in the area of the semi-highlands.
In the lower areas, the half-height areas are limited by the flat valley areas, in the upper area usually by the extensive forest areas Kräherwald , Glemswald , Bopser and Frauenkopf, which are typical for Stuttgart . The slopes in between have the Keuper blades typical of Stuttgart.
The half-height residential areas are in the city districts of Stuttgart-North , -West , -East , -Süd and Degerloch . They almost completely enclose the Stuttgart basin. The only exceptions to this are the upper reaches of the Nesenbach (in the area of the Heslach and Kaltental districts) and the breakthrough of the Nesenbach into the Neckar Valley (in the area of the Kernerviertel, Hauptbahnhof and Europaviertel districts). The semi-altitude is thus divided into a north-western and a south-eastern part.

- Haigst
- Heslach (south of the Nesenbach)
- northwestern part:

- Karlshöhe
- Hasenberg
- Crow forest
- Holderlinplatz
- Lenzhalde
- Relenberg
- Mönchhalde
- At the Bismarck Tower
meaning
The half-height locations have a strong impact on the Stuttgart cityscape.
While the slopes were used extensively as vineyards in earlier times, the increasing urban sprawl has displaced the vineyards. There are still Stuttgart vineyards on certain slopes of the basin ; so in the Mönchhalde , on the Karlshöhe, the Weinsteige and on the Hasenberg as well as the Kriegsberg (only a few hundred meters from the main train station). As a remnant from the wine-growing era, the more than 400 staircases known as " Stäffele " characterize the movement in the area of the half-height elevations.
The half-height locations are increasingly not just used as residential areas. Increasingly, there is commercial use for a representative purpose. Between 1987 and 1995, almost two thirds of all construction work on the slopes took place on usable areas , only 38% on residential areas . Since then, however, construction work on usable areas has decreased significantly - the slopes are increasingly being used as living space again. Among other things, there are also law firms, medical practices, consulates and associations located in the semi-altitude areas. The official seat of the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg , the Villa Reitzenstein , is also located in the area of the half-height elevations.
history
Until 1830, the half-height locations were almost not populated. In a first wave of settlement, mainly the eastern part (Dobel, Gänsheide, Diemershalde and Uhlandshöhe) were built up until 1900. In addition, the first construction work took place at the foot of the Killesberg, at the Karlshöhe and at the foot of the Hasenberg.
The largest wave of development followed between 1900 and 1948, when the majority of the existing buildings were built. The overview plan of the projected city extensions of the municipal civil engineering office from 1896/97 was decisive for the development of the half-height locations and their current appearance . The inner city, which was bursting at the seams at the time, made it necessary to designate new building land. In the same period, the model of the "green country house areas" was created under the then mayor Heinrich Gauß .
Since 1970, with the exception of the areas between Alter and Neuer Weinsteige, there has been no further large-scale development of open spaces. The construction activity is therefore limited to closing vacant lots and replacing the old stock with new properties.
