Hales Castle is an Outbound castle above the city Frome in the Mendip -Distrikt the English county of Somerset .
history
The Motte was probably built in the years immediately after the Norman conquest of England in 1066. Not only did it assist Norman control of the local settlement, but it was also close to the River Frome and the Roman road from Poole Harbor to the city of Bath , both of which were important Norman routes .
Today only earthworks remain from the castle . The circular ringwork has a diameter of 37 meters and is located on the north slope of Roddenbury Hill , near the Roddenbury Hillfort from the Iron Age . It consists of ramparts and outer moats and has a never completed outer bailey .
