Mendip is a district in Somerset , England , named after the Mendip Hills . The administrative seat is Shepton Mallet ; other significant places are Evercreech , Frome , Glastonbury , Street and Wells .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Municipal Borough , City Wells, Urban Districts Frome, Shepton Mallet and Street, Rural Districts Frome, Shepton Mallet and Wells, and parts of Rural Districts Ashbrigde and Clutton.
