South Somerset is a district in the county of Somerset in England . The administrative seat is the city of Yeovil ; other important places are Bruton , Castle Cary , Chard , Crewkerne , Ilminster , Somerton and Wincanton .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and arose from the merger of the Boroughs Chard and Yeovil, the Urban Districts Crewkerne and Ilminster and the Rural Districts Chard, Langport, Wincanton and Yeovil.
