Somerset West and Taunton is a district ( English district ) in the county of Somerset in England with the capital Taunton . The administration is divided between locations there as well as in Wellington and Williton .

history

Somerset West and Taunton was formed on April 1, 2019 on the basis of an ordinance issued in May 2018 and emerged from the merger of the districts of Taunton Deane and West Somerset .

politics

Somerset West and Taunton will have a District Council with a total of 59 MPs, the first election of which is scheduled for May 2, 2019. Head of administration is James Hassett, who had already taken on this position in the two dissolved districts at the beginning of 2019.

There are 93 parishes in Somerset West and Taunton . Of these, 81 have their own, Bishops Lydeard and Cothelstone as well as Selworthy and Minehead Without a joint parish council. In eight smaller municipalities there is no elected body; instead, residents ' assemblies are held there .
