The Halibut Point State Park is a state park in the US -Bundesstaat Massachusetts , the city's north Rockport in Essex County on the Atlantic Ocean lies. The park is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), a state-run nature conservation organization.
history
The so-called “Babson Quarry”, which opened in 1840 and where granite was extracted from the rock faces, was located within the park. The quarry was closed in 1929 as the industry declined.
After the end of mining, a large part of the site remained unused until a fire control tower was built in the area of today's park during World War II . This was intended to provide the Boston and Portland Coastal Defense with information about possible targets.
Today the tower serves as the visitor center and administrative seat of the park.
tourism
The park is now as good as only protected because of the renovated, approximately 18-meter-high fire control tower. The real "attraction" is on the adjacent "Sea Rocks", where visitors can enjoy the view of the Atlantic and have a picnic.
