Matthias Osterwold

Matthias Osterwold (* 1950 in Hamburg ) is a German cultural manager who lives and works in Berlin.

Life

Osterwold studied sociology, economics and urban research in Hamburg and musicology in Berlin. In 1983 he was one of the founders of the Friends of Guter Music Berlin eV, an organization for the promotion of new music, and is on its board. Since 1994 he has been an elected member of the Council for the Arts Berlin . Between 1999 and 2001 he was music curator at the Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe . For the Sonambiente Berlin sound art festival , he was part of the artistic management team both times in 1996 and 2006. In Berlin and Lucerne he was co-initiator of the Pfeifen im Walde festival (1994/97) . From 2001 to 2014 he was artistic director of MaerzMusik , the festival for contemporary music at the Berliner Festspiele . From 2002 to 2004 he was on the jury of the Capital Cultural Fund. From 2013 to 2018 he was the director of the Klangspuren Schwaz . Between 2018 and 2020, Osterwold was the music curator of the Ruhrtriennale.

He organized various art performances for Terry Fox and became involved in the Terry Fox Association after his death .
