Alim Ben Mabrouk ( Arabic حليم بن مبروك; * June 25, 1960 in Lyon ), also Halim Benmabrouk , is a former Algerian - French football player who spent his entire career with French clubs, but played internationally for Algeria.

Club career

Ben Mabrouk spent the first eight years of his life in a slum near Lyon before moving with his parents to a settlement in the metropolitan area. As a youth player, he belonged to the same club as his friend Luis Fernández , who was about the same age and later made the leap into the French national team. The later professionals applied for admission to the professional club Olympique Lyon , but were both not accepted. Instead, they moved together to AS Saint-Priest, where Ben Mabrouk made the leap to the third division team in 1979. He was able to establish himself in the team and aroused the interest of the second division Paris FC , who signed him in 1981.

After a second division year with regular appearances, he signed in 1982 with city and league rivals RC Paris . There, too, he became a regular player and was able to defend the position for years; his first season in the top French division, which lasted from 1984 to 1985, was followed in 1986 by renewed promotion. This was connected with the commitment of Luis Fernández, at whose side Ben Mabrouk was able to defend his regular place. The Algerian played in the cup final in 1990 , even if it was lost 1: 2 against HSC Montpellier . In the same year he turned his back on Paris after he was relegated to the second division with this despite the success in the Cup.

He found a new employer in the first division club Girondins Bordeaux . In 1991 he also left Bordeaux due to relegation to the second division and returned to his hometown Lyon, where he signed with Olympique Lyon, from which he had been rejected as a youth. Because of significant competition, he was not seeded with the first division club, so in 1992, at the age of 32, after 157 first and 101 second division games with ten goals each, he decided to end his career. He then settled down as a restaurateur near Lyon.

National team

During his time at RC Paris, Ben Mabrouk was appointed to the Algerian national team in 1986 at the age of 25 and made his debut in a 2-0 draw against Switzerland on May 6th. A few weeks later he was considered for the 1986 World Cup ; in the course of the tournament he was used in two games, even if he had to accept the elimination after the preliminary round. The three international matches without a goal were not followed by any more. In addition, however, there are two unofficial games against club teams.
