The Halkbank (Turkish: Halk Bankası , German Volksbank) is a Turkish state-owned bank .

The bank was founded in 1933 and started operations in 1938. It is headquartered in Ankara . Today it is the seventh largest bank in Turkey. It sponsors the sports club Halkbank Ankara , which was founded in 1983 as the bank's company sports club .

In the course of the corruption scandal in Turkey in 2013 , the bank director was arrested and charged on charges of corruption. In 2018, a New York court sentenced a senior manager at Halkbank in America for violating economic sanctions against Iran . The United States Treasury Department announced that it is considering a billion dollar fine. In the course of the further depreciation of the lira , the yields on dollar bonds from Halkbank rose to over 22 percent.
