The Neulußheim stop is the only train station in the Baden-Württemberg community of Neulußheim . It was rebuilt in 1986 as part of the construction of the new Mannheim – Stuttgart line. The category 5 stop is a stop on the Rheinbahn Mannheim – Karlsruhe . The Mannheim – Stuttgart high-speed line runs right next to the stop without access to the trains running on it.

history

The Neulußheim stop was created with the construction of the Mannheim – Stuttgart high-speed line in 1986 and replaced its predecessor located further to the west, which is now used culturally . As in the neighboring Hockenheim station , the old Karlsruhe – Mannheim line and the high-speed line were to be bundled in this area.

In the course of the construction work on the new line , the Rheinbahn between Hockenheim and Neulußheim was re-routed over a length of 6.60 km. Since then , the new line between Hockenheim and Neulußheim has run parallel to the old Karlsruhe – Mannheim line, which was relocated around 120 m in this area and bundled with Bundesstraße 36 .

For the construction of the new railway station in Neulußheim consisting was Offenbach am Main originating architect Gottfried Böhm commissioned. Böhm is the only German architect to date to have been awarded the prestigious Pritzker Prize . Under his leadership, a new central platform was built on the Rheinbahn. However, since the new stop was created on the old line to the east, a structure had to be built to cross the new line. The choice fell on an overpass over both railway lines, which was very large with a length of 108 meters. The construction work lasted from 1984 to 1987. From 1986 on, the architect Wolfgang Pehnt Boehm supported the work on the breakpoint. From an architectural point of view, the station was created with the typical Böhm materials concrete, steel and glass.

The breakpoint was opened on September 14, 1986 during the celebrations to mark the 275th anniversary of the town.

In 2010/2011, the railway invested around 135,000 euros in the renovation of the bridge, and the municipality spent around 50,000 euros on measures in the area around the station. As part of the 2nd expansion stage of the Rhein-Neckar S-Bahn , the station was finally developed step-free with the construction of elevators in 2015 .
