Wolfgang Pehnt (born September 3, 1931 in Kassel ) is a German architectural historian and architecture critic .

Life

Wolfgang Pehnt studied German , art history and philosophy at the Philipps University in Marburg , Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1956 he was in Frankfurt with the work experience of time and time interpretation of Goethe's poetry to Dr. phil. PhD.

At the beginning of his professional career he worked, among other things, as a lecturer at the renowned Gerd Hatje publishing house (today: Hatje Cantz Verlag ) in Stuttgart. From 1963 to 1995 he was editor and head of the literature and art department at Deutschlandfunk . In 1995, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia awarded him a titular professorship , and he subsequently taught at the Art History Institute of the Ruhr University in Bochum until 2009 .

Pehnt is a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts , the Berlin Academy of the Arts , the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, an honorary member of the German Werkbund NRW and the Society of Friends of the German Architecture Museum . He lives in Cologne-Weiden .

His children are Annette and Martin Pehnt .

Act

Pehnt works on the architectural history of the 19th and 20th centuries. The main works are the books Die Architektur des Expressionismus (1973, third edition 1998) and German Architecture since 1900 (2005, 2006). In addition to numerous other publications, he has written monographs on the architects Gottfried Böhm , Hans Poelzig , Rudolf Schwarz and Karljosef Schattner and was curator of the exhibitions on Rudolf Schwarz ( Museum for Applied Art (Cologne) , Academy of Arts, etc., 1997/1998, together with Maria Schwarz and Hilde Strohl), about Hans Poelzig (Academy of Arts in Berlin and German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt am Main, 2007/2008, together with Matthias Schirren ).
