The Association of German Architects and Engineers' Associations e. V. ( DAI , originally abbreviated VDAI ) was founded in 1871 as the umbrella association of architects and engineers' associations (AIVe) in Germany . The founding was preceded by extensive considerations and discussions by influential personalities who had discussed the first joint statute on May 21, 1870 in Berlin. After its dissolution in the course of the Gleichschaltung after 1933, it was re-established in 1949. Currently (January 2012) 32 architects and engineers associations are organized in the DAI. Ten associations are currently not members of the DAI.

task description

The main purpose is to promote the building culture with special consideration of the regional issues represented by its members (the AIVe). In order to fulfill this task, the DAI brings architects, engineers and other people interested in architecture and construction technology together and promotes their exchange in the sense of an active network. He also publishes the Baukultur association magazine of the same name , which appears every two months.

In addition, the DAI supports independent research and development in the construction industry. The association sees it as its task to support building science, building art, building history and building engineering work and to strengthen the training and further education of architects and engineers. Last but not least, it is important to support the next generation and students of the construction industry in a special way.
