Ernst Furtmayr
Ernst Furtmayr (born September 20, 1938 ) is a former German automobile racing driver .
Career
Furtmayr won the national mountain championship in two countries, Germany in 1961 and Austria in 1963.
In 1966 Furtmayr won the 500 km race on the Nürburgring in a Fiat Abarth 1300 OT in 3: 39: 17.300 hours; this corresponds to a speed of 137.3 km / h. At the 1000 km from Monza that same year, he and Anton Fischhaber and Giancarlo Baghetti took 14th place overall and 1st place for prototypes up to 1.3 liters, as well as 14th place overall and 1st place for sports cars up to 1.3 liters at the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring ; Co-pilots were Johannes Ortner , Kurt Ahrens and Wolf-Dieter Mantzel .
In 1968 and 1969 he won the European Hill Climb Championship for touring cars on a Schnitzer - BMW 2002Ti and repeated this success in 1970 in a BMW 2800 CS prepared by Schnitzer .
In 1972 he took a break, but began again in 1993 to drive circuit races, mainly within the VLN . After an overall victory in Group N in a BMW M3 E36, the highlight was fourth place overall in the 1996 Nürburgring 24-hour race . He ended his career a second time with the 1999 24-hour race.
Ernst Furtmayr lives in the Munich area and is the owner of Furtmayr Schweißtechnik Handels-GmbH.
