Martin Pehnt
Martin Pehnt (born June 8, 1970 in Cologne ) is a German energy scientist. He has been the Scientific Director of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Heidelberg (IFEU) since 2015 .
Life
Pehnt graduated from high school in 1989. He completed peace service in Berlin and London and then studied physics and philosophy as well as energy management in Berlin at the universities of Tübingen and Boulder (USA) . After a one-year research stay at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden (USA), he received his doctorate in energy technology from the University of Stuttgart with a thesis on fuel cells .
From 1997 to 2001 Pehnt worked at the German Aerospace Center . Since 2001 he has been working as a scientist at the IFEU Institute in Heidelberg. Since 2009 he has been head of the energy department there, and since 2015 managing director together with Andreas Detzel and Lothar Eisenmann. Pehnt is German Ambassador of the European Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ECEEE). He holds a patent for the production of nanocrystalline semiconductor layers ( “Preparation of a Semiconductor Film” ).
Pehnt lives in Heidelberg with his wife and two children .
