The Zgorzelec Miasto stop ("Zgorzelec City") is one of two railway stations for passenger traffic in the Polish border town of Zgorzelec in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship . It lies on the Węgliniec – Zgorzelec (Kohlfurt – Görlitz) railway and was set up in 1948 at the same time as the connecting curve to the Zgorzelec – Wałbrzych (Silesian Mountain Railway ) line.

location

The station is located in the breakthrough that was blasted through the hilly terrain between the former Görlitzer Ostvorstadt and Leopoldshain (today: Łagów) during the construction of the former Lower Silesian-Märkische railway line from Kohlfurt (today: Węgliniec). Today the area is located in the Zgorzelec city area on the edge of a residential area along Armii Krajowej Street . The road spans the breakthrough and thus also the railway line south of the station with a bridge structure.

The dilapidated
Zgorzelec Miasto station building

The modern, two-story station building rises directly above the western slope at the platforms and is located on Ulica Juliana Tuwima . In front of the building, the street forms a kind of station forecourt with parking spaces. The station building has been in a ruinous condition for several years. The ticket office opposite also moved to a temporary container building. The station building is no longer used to this day and is left to deteriorate further.

From the station forecourt past the former station building, a staircase leads down to the platform in the direction of Görlitz. A footbridge leads to the platform in the direction of Węgliniec. The platforms and tracks were fundamentally renewed in 2006 and 2007 as part of the German-Polish agreement for cooperation in the further development of rail connections from 2003.

The platforms are now newly paved, have sheltered shelters and new lamps and are around 170 meters long. They extend to the barred level crossing on Ulica Zamiejsko Lubańska .

Rail connections

From the Zgorzelec Miasto train station there are three daily connections to Wrocław Główny (formerly Breslau Hbf) and Dresden Hbf with a regional express . This is operated by Deutsche Bahn AG in cooperation with PKP Przewozy Regionalne (Polish State Railways, Regional Transport Department). The Polish railway company Koleje Dolnośląskie operates eight other pairs of regional trains between Zgorzelec and Węgliniec. Three pairs of trains run from Węgliniec via Bolesławiec (formerly Bunzlau) and Chojnów (formerly Haynau) to Legnica (formerly Liegnitz). Two of the three pairs of trains continue to Wroclaw. In December 2009 PKP discontinued its own direct connections from Zgorzelec to Wroclaw or the Polish capital.

Furthermore, five pairs of trains run by Koleje Dolnośląskie (KD) via Lubań Śląski to Jelenia Góra every day .
