The Hamilton College is a private, non-denominational liberal arts college in Clinton , the 1793 Hamilton-Oneida Academy was founded. The college is named after the politician Alexander Hamilton . Originally founded as a school for boys that accepted both whites and Indians. 1812, the school was transformed into a liberal arts college that a undergraduate degree in the liberal arts offering (Liberal Arts). Since 1978 women have also been admitted to the course.

Among the college's better known graduates include the U.S. statesman and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elihu Root (1864), pharmaceutical entrepreneurs William L. Bristol and John Meyer (1887), poet Ezra Pound (1903), film producer Thomas Tull (1992), and the British - Pakistani writer Kamila Shamsie (1994). Actor Peter Falk visited Hamilton for a short time (1945-6) but never graduated. From 1985 to 1989 the ice hockey goalkeeper Guy Hebert , who later played in the National Hockey League , attended school.
