Han Changhoon (* 1963 in Yŏsu , Chŏllanam-do ) is a South Korean writer .
Life
Han Changhoon was born in Yŏsu, South Chŏlla Province, in 1963 . He studied at the Hannam University . In 1992 the author made his debut with the story The Anchor (닻), which was published in the newspaper Taejŏn Ilbo .
Motifs such as sea and island are very significant in Han Changhoon's stories and often come into play in the form of nostalgia. The reason for this lies in its origins in the port city of Yŏsu . The characters in his works often have memories of the lonely coastal landscape in their hearts, motifs such as blue-black waves, desolate beaches with the wind blowing, or rough fishermen's hands. An image of home is created in relation to people who live burdened with worries in impoverished rural areas or on the outskirts of cities. Island, I live at the end of the world (섬, 나는 세상 의 끝 을 산다) consists of 12 stories. They are about a man who lives alone on an island, a woman who visits an island in memory of her old lost love, an old man who drifts lost on the sea to the island of Cheju , and a violent husband, who meets his fled wife again in the moonlight on the beach. In these stories, the sea is portrayed as life giving insight into the mysteries of existence. Although Han Changhoon addresses the suffering of the socially and economically disadvantaged, his characteristic modesty and sensitivity lead to the fact that he discovers beautiful and psychological details in every situation and gives his characters optimism and a belief in the good in people, so that they can face the difficulties of life can defy.
