Hanan Eshel

Hanan Eshel (born July 25, 1958 in Rechovot ; † April 8, 2010 ) was an Israeli archaeologist and Qumran researcher .

Life

Eshel did his military service at Nachal . During this time he was stationed in the Moshav Qeschet (Golan), where he met his future wife Esther Eshel , currently a lecturer in biblical studies at the Bar-Ilan University . During his studies at Haifa University , Eshel was one of the few religious students. He wrote his doctoral thesis about the time of the Second Temple . Eshel was later professor at the Institute for Land of Israel and Archeology at Bar-Ilan University and from 2002 to 2004 director of the institute. On April 8, 2010, Eshel died of cancer.
