Nachal (Hebrew נח״ל) is an acronym of the words N oar Cha luzi L ochem (נוער חלוצי לוחם, "fighting pioneer youth"), a movement that was founded in 1948.

Nachal was founded in 1948 by David Ben-Gurion as a further development of the pioneer youth with the aim of combining agriculture and military service. The Nachal was primarily involved in the establishment of kibbutzim , some of which were originally Nachal settlements . The Nachal cradle is particularly the kibbutz Ein Harod (Ein Charod) in northern Israel at the foot of Mount Gilboa.

In 1984 Nachal (together with the Association of Development Cities ) was awarded the Israel Prize “for a special contribution to society and the state”.
