Trade Association of Bavaria
The Handelsverband Bayern eV (HBE) represents the interests of the Bavarian retail trade . The association is based in Munich . With 60,000 companies, 330,000 employees and over 40,000 apprenticeships, retail is the third largest branch of the economy in Bavaria after industry and craft. The forerunner organization was the Landesverband des Bayerischen Einzelhandels e. V. (LBE), founded in 1946.
tasks
The interest group's fields of activity include political advice , labor law , tariff policy , location policy (e.g. transport planning, large-scale retail projects, city marketing), tax policy , education, environmental and European policy. The HBE provides information on legal developments and evaluates political decisions and labor law judgments, particularly with regard to their consequences for retailers.
The association offers its members several information services. These are specialist circulars (industry newsletters ), the “HBE practical knowledge” series on trade-related issues, a weekly e-mail newsletter and a monthly company letter.

The association is divided into six regions with 60 employees. The main office is in Munich. The regional HBE regional offices in Augsburg, Bayreuth, Nuremberg, Regensburg and Würzburg as well as over 200 voluntary district and local chairpersons and education officers across Bavaria provide on-site support for trading companies. In addition, there are the HBE specialist groups in the individual sectors (e.g. furniture, food, textiles, electronics). The most important organs of the HBE are the general assembly, the board of directors, the executive committee, the general management, the tariff commission and the committees.
As a regional association, the HBE is a member of the federal political umbrella organization for German retailers, the Handelsverband Deutschland (HDE).
