The Hanerau is a river in Schleswig-Holstein in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district .

The Hanerau was a left tributary of the Eider . When the Kiel Canal was built at the end of the 19th century, it was separated from the Eider and has been flowing into the canal ever since.

In Hanerau-Hademarschen the Hanerau is dammed and forms the mill pond there. The local former watermill Hanerau is a cultural monument of the place.
