The Hanferdfloh ( Psylliodes attenuatus ), also Hopfenerdfloh is a Erdflohart . The fleas belong to the family of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae).

In agriculture, like most earth fleas, it is considered a pest. He eats the two related plants hemp ( Cannabis sativa ) and hops ( Humulus ). It can also be found on nettles .

The beetles lay eggs in the ground in May and June and die by July at the latest. The larvae and pupae remain in the soil for 7 to 10 weeks.

Appearance

The oval, slender shape is characteristic of the exterior. The beetle is 2 to 2.8 mm long and 1 to 1.4 mm wide. The top is metallic green to bronze in color, the end of the wing cover is shiny yellow-red to ore green. The antennae and legs are yellow-red. The front and middle legs are brown in the basal half, the rear legs are pitch brown and have a metallic sheen.

The genus of the earth fleas has two ten-segment antennae. The neck label has no deepened longitudinal wrinkles on Basalrand and no cross furrow. There are strong dotted, regular lines on the wing covers.

Damage

In hemp, the beetles cause damage by eating fibers or flowers. The interrupted fibers increasingly form lignin and ramifications arise. This makes the fiber brittle and unusable for textiles. The damage caused by eating can reduce the value of the fibers by up to 100%.

In the case of hops, they eat the leaf tissue, so that the leaves appear perforated or even skeletonized in the event of severe infestation. The side shoots and bracts in the inflorescence are also eaten away and damaged as a result.
