The Waldschlösschen brewery is a beer brewery in Dresden . It is located in the Radeberger Vorstadt district of Dresden as the most striking building in the Waldschlösschen area on Bautzner Strasse , within sight of the Elbe .

history

On August 12, 1836, 14 wealthy Dresden citizens founded the Actienverein der Societätsbrauerei zu Dresden . It should become a large brewery in which beer was produced in the Bavarian style. In 1836 the citizens bought the large plot of land in the Waldschlösschen and built the brewery on it. For a long time it was considered to be Germany's first joint stock brewery . In 2007, however, it was documented that this was rather the joint stock company Baiersche Bierbrauerei Medingen not far from Dresden , which was founded in May 1836.

On March 26, 1838, after two years of construction, the malt house , brewery, storage cellar and brewery bar were inaugurated. In the same year, the name was changed to Waldschlößchen AG based on the neighboring hunting lodge . In 1857 the brewery burned down and was then rebuilt. Due to the good quality of the beer, it was exported to many major German cities and from 1855 to Brazil and 1863 to Paris . Thanks to its economic strength, the company was able to assert itself in the highly competitive market and survived the closings of many other breweries in the area. In 1888 it was renamed Societätsbrauerei Dresden AG .

After the Second World War , the brewery was expropriated and nationalized in 1946 . Until 1952 the company produced as VVB / VEB Waldschlößchenbrauerei . From 1960 the brewery belonged to the VEB (K) Dresdner Breweries as the North Plant . From 1978 to 1984 the brewery functioned as VEB Waldschlößchenbrauerei Dresden in the VE Beverage Combine Dresden . In 1981 the Coschützer brewery started operations. As a result, only non-alcoholic drinks were produced in the Waldschlösschen brewery. In 1990 this production facility was then closed.

After extensive renovations and extensions, the Brauhaus am Waldschlösschen pub was opened in the brewery in 1997 . Since then, the brewery has been brewing four types of beer according to old recipes for the inn of the same name. The current operator is Waldschlösschen Rank & Büttig GmbH .
