Hang-On is an arcade - racing game that of AM2 developed in 1985 by Sega has been released. The player controls a motorcycle and drives against time and other computer-controlled opponents. The game is built into special versions of the Sega Master System .

In a representation with the help of a third-person perspective , the player drives on a racetrack that is divided into smaller sections. A countdown shows the time remaining in the game. At the end of each section, a few seconds are added and the game is extended.

Arcade machine

Two arcade machine designs were used for the game . A standard housing that, however, is equipped with a handlebar and brake levers instead of a joystick and buttons. In addition, a sit-down version (see arcade machine ) was produced, which is similar to a real motorcycle. While the screen is integrated in the windshield of this replica motorcycle, the player has to tilt it sideways with his body weight in order to control the game. However, force feedback did not exist until Out Run (1986).

The graphics as well as the screen structure and the game play are reminiscent of the classic Pole Position (1982) , despite the higher color palette . However, there are five different sections of the route.

Great hang-on

In 1987 Sega developed a successor with Super Hang-On . The arcade version was ported to Amiga , Amstrad CPC , Atari ST , Commodore 64 , MS-DOS , Sega Mega Drive and Sinclair ZX Spectrum in the following years .

There is also a Hang-On Jr. (1985), Limited Edition Hang-On (1991) and a Hang-On II for the SG 1000.
