Hang on the Box from Beijing is one of the most successful girls' rock bands in China .

Band history

Hang on the Box was founded in 1998. Hang on the Box made its first appearance in July 1998: Wang Yue played guitar and sang, Yilina played bass and Yang Fan sat on drums. In 1999, the then 16-year-old Shenggy joined the band and took over the drums, Yang Fan became the guitarist.

In May 2002 their first album, Yellow Banana, was released in China and Japan , where the band soon went on tour. In July 2002 the second studio album Di Di Di was released . In March 2003 Hang on the Box went on an American tour for the first time. Yang Fan left the band and was replaced by guitarist Xiao Gan. In September 2004 her third studio album was released, the mini album Foxy Lady , in which influences from Krautrock , Electronica and Hip-Hop can be heard. In 2006, Hang on the Box, meanwhile again without Xiao Gan and only three, recorded their fourth studio album in the Beijing studio of Blixa Bargeld ( Einstürzende Neubauten ), which has not yet been released for legal reasons.

The documentary Beijing Bubbles (2005) accompanies four other Beijing bands as well as Hang on the Box in some of their appearances in Beijing's underground scene, but also gives insights into their everyday life.
