Until 2011, DB SCHENKERhangartner was the name of a product for combined transport from Schenker AG . The pre- carriage and post- carriage are carried out by truck, while the main carriage is carried out with block trains on the rails. The product name includes Hangartner AG , which merged with Schenker Schweiz AG in 2010 and was an internationally active Swiss forwarding and logistics company .
history
The company was founded in Aarau in 1890 as a horse and cart company. In the course of time it has developed into one of the most important European forwarding companies. In 1980 the entry into intermodal transport took place .
At the end of 2001, the previous sole owner Kaspar Hangartner initially sold 7.5 percent of his shares to the subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn DB Cargo . At the beginning of October 2002, for reasons of age, he sold all of the shares in DB-Cargo with the aim of maintaining the company's independence. In 2005, Hangartner was taken over by the DB subsidiary Schenker AG and operated in the DB Group in the DB Schenker Logistics business unit under the brand name DB SCHENKERhangartner . After the corporation was merged with Schenker Schweiz AG in 2010, it was deleted from the Swiss commercial register on June 23, 2010 .
Hangartner AG was recently represented in ten European countries with 24 branches and was particularly active on the European north - south axis between Scandinavia , Germany , Switzerland and Italy , on which it transported 4,000 block trains per year. In transit traffic crossing the Alps , she mainly used unaccompanied combined traffic . The fine distribution was carried out by truck . The group of companies employed around 470 people in 2007 and achieved sales of 180 million Swiss francs in 2006.
In 2011 the rail- related brands DB SCHENKERhangartner and "DB SCHENKERrailog" were combined under the umbrella of TRANSA Spedition GmbH . The name "Hangartner" has not been used since then.
