Hanikase (German Hainkap ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in southeast Estonia . It belongs to the rural parish of Võru in Võru county (until 2017 Orava rural parish in Põlva county ).

Population and location

The village has 74 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 26 kilometers northeast of the city of Võru .

The streams Tuderna oja and Liinamäe oja flow through the village area .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1561 as Klein-Wayguzicza . In 1627 it is mentioned as Klein Wagositz to the servants of Hayniglas Peter. Gradually the name of the servant spread to the whole village and the old place name disappeared.

From 1873 to 1997 there was a school in Hanikase. Today the local library is located in the old building.
