Hannah M. Cotton

Hannah M. Cotton-Paltiel ( Hebrew חנה מ כותן – פלטיאל, born August 28, 1946 in Jerusalem ) is an Israeli epigraphist and ancient historian.

Cotton was a lecturer (Lecturer or Senior Lecturer) for Ancient History and Classical Philology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1979 to 1994 . She became an associate professor in 1994; from 1997 she had a full professorship for ancient history and classical philology. From 2003 until her retirement she held the Shalom Horowitz Chair of Classical Philology at the Hebrew University.

Cotton is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and has been President of the Israeli Society for the Promotion of Ancient Language Studies since 2007.

She is co-editor of the Corpus Inscriptionum Iudaeae / Palaestinae .
