She first made a name for itself on November 11, 1961 when she won against Agnes Simon in the German Cup match between Württemberg and West Germany . This was Simon's first defeat against a German player, and the men's victory was described as the sensation of the year in the specialist press .

In November 1962, men played their first international match in the German national team. She won her singles against Austria and was undefeated. She repeated this result a year later, in December 1963, when she again won a game against Austria and never lost. She ended the 1963/64 season with a 31: 1 record in the Reutlingen women's team. In 1964 she reached the final in doubles at the German National Championships with Inge Harst .

When Rosemarie Seidel decided not to participate, Hannelore Männer started instead in the individual competitions at the European Championships. Here she survived the qualification, defeating Lena Rundström (Sweden), Morreau (Spain), Peyan (Yugoslavia) and Liza (Finland) and only failed in the last 16 against the Englishwoman Mary Shannon-Wright .

Between 1966 and 1969 Hannelore married Männer and then performed under the name Schneider . In 1969 she took part again in the individual competitions of the World Cup in Munich. In 1972 she reached the semi-finals of the German championship in doubles with Erika Schmollinger .
