Hannes Eder (born October 1, 1967 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian musician and the longstanding General Manager of Universal Music Austria.

life and career

Hannes Eder was born in Vienna in 1967. He grew up in Katzelsdorf and has two younger siblings, Tanja and Gregor Eder. At the age of 13 he began his career as a guitarist and bassist in the punk band Dr. Steiff . The band with which he became successful across national borders in the 80s was called The Bates .

From 1989 to 1993 he worked as a freelance journalist for print, radio and TV. From 1991 he was editor-in-chief of Treffpunkt Ö3 . He created the Ö3 events Ö3 Beachmania and Ö3 Mountainmania . He was then a founding member, program director and presenter of the alternative radio station FM4 . In 2000 he became an independent board member at ORF . He also founded the advertising agency Schön & Gut .

Hannes Eder has been Managing Director at Universal Music Austria & Western Balkans since 2003 . At the beginning of 2007 he was elected President of IFPI Austria, the Association of the Austrian Music Industry . Since 2012 he has also been on the board of the Croatian sister organization HDU . Furthermore, Hannes Eder is active on the federal board of the professional association Audio / Vision of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

In March 2016 it was announced that he was leaving Universal Music Austria and Cornelius Ballin would succeed him as Managing Director.

Hannes Eder has three sons, is divorced and lives in Vienna.
