Hannes Rösler

Hannes Rösler (born January 12, 1973 in Oldenburg ) is a German legal scholar . His main research interests are civil law , commercial and economic law , intellectual property law , media and information law , civil procedural law , international private law , European law , legal sociology and comparative law .

academic career

Hannes Rösler studied law and social sciences at the Philipps University of Marburg from 1992 to 1998 , interrupted by an Erasmus year at the London School of Economics (1994/1995). He received his doctorate in 2003 from the University of Marburg with a thesis on European consumer contract law. After his second state examination in Frankfurt am Main , Rösler obtained a Master of Laws from Harvard University in 2004 with a DAAD annual scholarship.

From 2004 to 2013 Rösler was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg. In 2012 he completed his habilitation at the University of Hamburg with a thesis on the European judicial system. The habilitation thesis received two prizes ( Esche Schümann Commichau Foundation , Kurt-Hartwig-Siemers Science Prize of the Hamburg Scientific Foundation).

After substitute professorships at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Bonn and Frankfurt an der Oder , he was appointed professor for civil law, international private law and comparative law at the University of Siegen , where he was appointed in March 2014. In addition, he has been director of the Institute for Media and Communication Law (IMKR) there since 2015. Since 2008 Rösler has headed the International Media Law Forum (IMLF), which he co-founded . He has been a member of the regional board of the German-American Lawyers Association (DAJV) since 2012.
