Hannibal von Schauenburg
Hannibal von Schauenburg (* 1582 ; † March 30, 1634 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a count, general field master , imperial field marshal (1632) in the Thirty Years' War and commander of the Order of Malta .
Life
Hannibal came from the Herlisheim line of the Counts of Schauenburg . He was victorious in the defense of the fortress Breisach during the siege by the Swedes under Rhine Count Otto Ludwig in the summer of 1633. Wallenstein promoted him to commandant of the Upper Rhine area based in Breisach. As a successful general, he had asked for his dismissal several times because he could no longer bear the horrors of war. When on June 18 and 19, 1633 the village of Kirchhofen and Kirchhofen Castle were stormed under Rheingraf Otto Ludwig von Salm-Kyrburg-Mörchingen and subsequently 300 farmers were slain, they had waited in vain for his help.
