Hanns Jürgen Küsters (born December 30, 1952 in Krefeld ) is a German political scientist and contemporary historian . Until 2018 he was head of the main department Scientific Services / Archive for Christian-Democratic Politics of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e. V. in Sankt Augustin and teaches as an adjunct professor for political science and contemporary history at the Institute for Political Science and Sociology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.

Life

After graduating from high school at Moltkeplatz in June 1972 in Krefeld, Küsters studied social science and economics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1974 he moved to the University of Hamburg . After completing his studies with a degree in political science, he was an educational officer at the Junge Union and received his doctorate in 1982 under Hans-Peter Schwarz at the Research Institute for Political Science and European Issues at the University of Cologne with a dissertation on "The establishment of the European Economic Community". He then worked on the “Tea talks 1950–1961” edition for the Federal Chancellor Adenauer House Foundation in Bad Honnef - Rhöndorf as part of the “Adenauer Rhöndorfer Edition” estate edition.

In 1987 Küsters joined Hans-Peter Schwarz at his chair at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. In 1994 Küsters took over the management of the edition group "Documents on Germany Politics" in the Federal Archives and in 2000 did his habilitation at the Philosophical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn with the topic "The negotiations of the four allied victorious powers of the Second World War on a peace treaty with Germany between 1945 and 1990 ”. In 2006 Küsters was appointed adjunct professor at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. From 2008 to 2018 he worked at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e. V.
