Hans-Dieter Schwartz (born May 2, 1941 in Bielefeld ; † May 25, 2015 ) was a German boxer . As a professional boxer, he was German middleweight champion .
Life
Schwartz's father played soccer for Arminia Bielefeld . Father and son were both nicknamed "Scots". As an amateur boxer, Schwartz won 159 of his 178 fights and was German youth champion as well as German runner-up for men. He was also appointed to the German boxing national relay.
Schwartz made his debut in professional boxing in June 1965, defeating Hans-Joachim Trautwein in his first fight in the Ostseehalle Kiel . After 14 wins in a row, Schwartz lost a professional fight for the first time in March 1967 when he was defeated by Klaus Stockmann in West Berlin . At the end of November 1968 he was given the opportunity to box for the German middleweight championship in Frankfurt am Main . Schwartz won the fight against Karl-Heinz Brunnhölz on points. At the end of June 1969 he fought in Monte Catini ( Italy ) against Carlos Duran for the European championship title. Schwartz 'coach Leo Kruzik threw in the towel in the 14th round of the European Championship fight after his protégé had previously been clearly inferior and had rarely been able to use his strength, the left hook, effectively. In the tenth lap, Schwartz went down, but initially recovered well.
After boxing in other European countries (in addition to Italy also in Austria , the United Kingdom and the Netherlands ), Schwartz went to an exhibition match in South Africa in January 1971 , which he lost.
Schwartz kept his German middleweight championship title until the end of September 1972 when he was defeated by Klaus-Peter Tombers . In May 1973 he lost again to Tombers and announced shortly after the knockout loss in Kiel that he would stop boxing. However, until February 1976, Schwarz played further fights, most of which he lost. Among them was another fight for the German middleweight championship, which he lost in March 1974 in Cologne in the presence of Max Schmeling against Frank Reiche by knockout in the third round after Schwartz's eye had swelled shut in the first round.
