Klaus Stockmann (born November 22, 1938 in Kiel ; † 2014 ) was a German boxer .

Life

As an amateur, Stockmann boxed for the Gaarden gymnastics and sports association, his coach there was Winfried Priess . In April 1961 Stockmann made his debut as a professional boxer. At the end of November 1963, the Kieler, who had achieved 13 wins and two draws by then, had the opportunity to fight against Heini Meinhardt  for the German middleweight championship. Stockmann lost the fight held in the Kieler Ostseehalle, which was sold out with 8,000 spectators , by breaking off in the ninth round. Southerner Stockmann suffered a lip injury that was bleeding profusely in the course of the fight. The professional from Kiel, who worked as a lifeguard , fought a fight abroad for the first time at the beginning of February 1965, but was defeated in Italy  by the Argentine Carlo Duran on points.

In November 1965, Stockmann, who was now being looked after by the Hamburg trainer Kuddl Schmidt, challenged the German middleweight champion Jupp Elze in Kiel  after the duel had broken off at an earlier date shortly before the fight. Stockmann determined the duel over eight rounds and brought his dangerous left hook to the finish several times, but according to his coach he lacked cleverness in the three subsequent rounds, the worn out Kieler lost to Elze by breaking off in the twelfth round.

Stockmann could not use his third and fourth title opportunity either: In mid-October 1964 he lost the fight for the German light heavyweight championship against Lothar Stengel and in November 1969 again in the middleweight division against Hans-Dieter Schwartz .
