Hans-Dieter Spengler (legal scholar)

Hans-Dieter Spengler (born April 29, 1963 in Zweibrücken ) is a German legal scholar .

Life

After graduating from the Hofenfelsgymnasium in Zweibrücken in 1980, he studied law at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich from 1980 to 1986 as a scholarship holder of the Maximilianeum Foundation and from 1983 to 1984 in Oxford at Balliol College (1986 first state examination in law and second state examination in 1989). After passing the first state examination in law until 1998, he was a research assistant and assistant at the Leopold Wenger Institute for Ancient Legal History at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After completing his doctorate in 1992 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, he held a teaching position for Roman law at the University of Bayreuth in the winter semester 1996/1997 . After completing his habilitation in 1998 at the Law Faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University ( venia legendi for the subjects of Roman law, civil law and modern legal history), he represented the chair in the 1998/1999 winter semester and was appointed to the chair of civil law, Roman Law and Ancient Legal History at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . Since 1996 he has been a member of the “Ancient Slavery Research Group” at the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz. From September 2001 to August 2006 he was a member of the examination board for the first state examination in Bavaria.

His main research interests are Roman law, ancient and modern legal history, ancient rhetoric and law.
