career

First attempt, until 1961

For the round in 1957/58, the 20-year-old amateur soccer player Hans-Günter Diegel came from Sportfreunde Wanne-Eickel as a new addition to the western upper division Westfalia Herne. Coach Fritz Langner immediately used the defensive talent in the first three round games in August 1957 against Aachen, 1. FC Cologne and Prussia Münster. The point yield was modest with 1: 5 points, so that it remained in the fourth use on October 6th in a 3-1 home win against Hamborn 07 for Diegel. Since he was no longer considered for the league team, Diegel went back to the amateur camp and joined the TB 54 Eickel . In the 1960/61 round, the middle runner celebrated the championship in the state league with the TB and promotion to the Westphalia league. On June 1, 1961, he made his debut in the national soccer team of amateurs at the international match in Oberhausen against Holland. In the only international match of the DFB amateurs in 1961, the German team achieved a 5-3 success. The runner row consisted of Dagmar Drewes , Diegel and Horst Kunzmann . Now the upper league had become aware of Diegel again and he accepted Viktoria Köln's offer for the 1961/62 round and moved to the cathedral city on the Rhine.

Viktoria Cologne, 1961 to 1964

Coach Hennes Weisweiler brought the newcomer from Eickel immediately to use on the first match day of the 1961/62 round, on August 6, 1961, in the away game against Schwarz-Weiß Essen as a middle runner. The start was lost with 0: 3 goals, the team-mates Günther Klemm (goalkeeper) and the other defenders Gero Bisanz , Werner Maes and Dieter Nasdalla could n't change anything. Weisweiler used Diegel in 29 games and with SC Viktoria 04 finished tenth in the Oberliga West with an average attendance of 9111 . In both derbies against 1. FC Cologne, on September 10, 1961 and January 13, 1962, the Viktoria defense, directed by Diegel, could not effectively stop the vortex of the billy goats. Both games were clearly lost with 0: 5 and 0: 4 goals and Diegel and his colleagues found no means against Karl-Heinz Thielen , Hans Schäfer , Christian Müller and Ernst-Günter Habig . In the last year of the major leagues, 1962/63, the derbies against 1. FC were much tighter - 1: 2 or 0: 2 defeats - but the goal was to get into the top five of the table in order to win It was not possible to qualify for the Bundesliga from the 1963/64 series onwards. Diegel played all 30 games in this round and Victoria finished with the most hits - 81 Goals at the storm with Carl-Heinz Rühl , Horst Hülß , Klaus Matischak , Jürgen Schult and Willibert Kremer - the eighth place in the Oberliga West. In October 1962, center runner Diegel was able to compete with center forward Flórián Albert in the games in the Messe Cup against Ferencvaros Budapest . The Hungarians clearly prevailed with 4-1 goals after the narrow 3: 4 first leg defeat in the home game.

In the first year of the regional soccer league in 1963/64 , coach Weisweiler entrusted the position of center runner to the young player Ferdinand Heidkamp . Hans-Günter Diegel only played the first two round games in August 1963 against Wuppertaler SV and Marl-Hüls as a right defender and then ended his higher-class career.
