Hans-Günther van Hooven
Hans-Günther van Hooven (born October 27, 1896 in Berlin ; † September 27, 1964 ) was a German officer.
Life
The son of a Prussian civil servant and officer family was a volunteer at the beginning of the First World War, who took the rank of first lieutenant at the end of the war . He then worked as a manager in a Königsberg freight forwarding company and studied economics. In 1935 he was reactivated as a captain in the Wehrmacht . As a colonel and commander of a news department, he was flown into the Stalingrad pocket on December 28, 1942 as the newly appointed news chief of the 6th Army , where he witnessed the end of the 6th Army on Paul's staff . As a Soviet prisoner of war in September 1943, he was one of the founding members of the Association of German Officers (BDO) and was Vice President there. He was a co-signer of the founding documents of the BDO and the »Appeal to the German Generals and Officers! An Volk und Wehrmacht! «Of September 12, 1943. In a by-election he was elected a member of the NKFD , he was a member of the executive committee and in the winter of 1944/45 worked as a representative on the Baltic front for the rescue of German soldiers from the Kurland basin .
After the NKFD was dissolved in November 1945, he stayed in the USSR for four years before returning to Germany in April 1950. From December 1, 1950 until he retired, he worked for the GDR travel agency , where he was responsible for developing travel and tourism between the GDR and other countries.
