Hans-Georg Kellerer
Hans-Georg Kellerer (born October 2, 1934 in Essen , † July 14, 2005 near Wildbad Kreuth ) was a German mathematician. His main area of work was probability theory .
After graduating from the Maximiliansgymnasium in Munich , Kellerer began studying economics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich , but soon switched to mathematics and received his doctorate in 1960 on the subject of "The cutting dimension functions of measurable subsets of a product area" with Hans Werner Richter . After years assistant in Munich, various stays abroad and in professors he received in 1965 a call to a full professorship at the Ruhr-University Bochum . In 1973 he finally accepted a call back to his alma mater in Munich, where he remained until the end of his life.
Kellerer made his best known work on marginal distributions , which built on a groundbreaking work by Volker Strassen . In addition, he dealt with random dynamic systems, a measure-theoretical variant of linear programming and application-oriented problems that were brought to him by his brother, the radiation biologist Albrecht Kellerer .
Kellerer remained active in research even after his retirement in 2000. His life came to an abrupt end when he lost his way on the way back from a mountain hike to the Halserspitze and fell into the depths.
