Hans-Gerhard Husung

Hans-Gerhard Husung (born May 4, 1950 in Braunschweig ) is a German political official ( SPD ).

Life and work

Husung studied history, political science, sociology, philosophy and education in Braunschweig , Munich and Bielefeld and graduated in 1975 with the state examination in history, political science and education. He then worked on his doctorate (until 1978).

From 1978 to 1979 Husung was personal assistant to the rector of the Technical University of Braunschweig, after which he became a research fellow at the German Historical Institute in London (until 1985). After his return he became personal advisor to the President of the Max Planck Society based in Munich. In 1990 he took over the management of the university planning department at the office of the Science Council in Cologne. After three years as President of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences , Husung moved to the Authority for Science and Research , where he was responsible for strategy projects until he was appointed State Secretary in Berlin.

Hans-Gerhard Husung is married and has three children.

Husung is a member of the SPD.

In 2004 Husung was appointed State Secretary for Science and Research in the Senate Department for Science, Research and Culture, led by Thomas Flierl ( PDS ). Even after the new Senator for Science Jürgen Zöllner (SPD) took office, Husung remained in office.

Zöllner was deputy chairman of the Joint Science Conference (GWK) in 2010 . On October 25, 2010, Husung was elected to succeed Jürgen Schlegel, General Secretary of the GWK, who is retiring for reasons of age. Husung held this position from February 1, 2011 to October 2016. Husung's successor as State Secretary in Berlin was Knut Nevermann (SPD).
