Hans-Heinrich Harms (engineer)

Hans-Heinrich Harms (* 1947 in Diepholz ) is a German professor of mechanical engineering . From 1990 to 2010 he headed the Institute for Agricultural Machinery and Fluid Technology (ILF) at the TU Braunschweig and has been retired since 2010.

Life

education

After Harms had graduated from high school in 1966 at the mathematics and natural sciences high school " Graf-Friedrich-Schule " in Diepholz and had done two years of military service, he studied mechanical engineering at the TU Braunschweig from 1968 to 1973 . After a year as a volunteer in the private sector, he returned to the Technical University of Braunschweig and worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Agricultural Machinery until he received his Dr.-Ing. PhD.

Professional and academic career

From 1981 to 1987 Harms worked at Claas in Saulgau as an engineer , later as head of product development. He was also head of product development at Welger Maschinenfabrik in Wolfenbüttel from 1987 to 1990, and then in 1990 he accepted a call at the Technical University of Braunschweig. There he was head of the "Institute for Agricultural Machinery" until 2010, which was renamed in 1995 to "Institute for Agricultural Machinery and Fluid Technology". The Institute for Mobile Machines and Commercial Vehicles (IMN) emerged from this in 2012.

In the meantime he held the position of dean of the mechanical engineering department of the TU Braunschweig from 1995 to 1997. In addition, he was “dean of trainees” until 2009, where he was in charge of the joint training workshop. In addition, he was involved at the TU Braunschweig as coordinator of all vocational training in the commercial area, member of the narrower faculty for mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, spokesman for automotive engineering in the mechanical engineering department and head of the joint workshop of several institutes. From 2005 to 2010 he was editor of the Agricultural Technology yearbook .

Awards

Harms received an honorary doctorate from the University of Transylvania Brașov , Romania in 2001 . In 2001 he was also awarded the Medal of Honor at the German Construction Machinery Day and in 2005 the internationally recognized “Joseph Bramah Medal” from the Mechatronics, Information and Control Group in the “Institution of Mechanical Engineers” in Linköping ( Sweden ). In 2014 he was awarded the VDI Decoration of Honor.
