Hans-Jörg Gilomen

Hans-Jörg Gilomen (born February 10, 1945 in Basel ) is a Swiss historian .

Life

Hans-Jörg Gilomen studied history at the University of Basel and at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris as élève libre by Jacques Le Goff . In 1976 he received his doctorate in general history, art history and historical auxiliary sciences with the dissertation The manorial rule of the Basel Cluniac priory of St. Alban in the Middle Ages. A contribution to the economic history of the Upper Rhine . In 1984 Gilomen completed his habilitation with František Graus at the University of Basel with the habilitation thesis Der Rentenkauf im Mittelalter , where he was a part-time lecturer until 1986, then a full-time lecturer in medieval history until 1988. From 1988 until his retirement in 2010 he worked as a full professor for general Swiss history of the Middle Ages and for medieval economic and social history at the University of Zurich .

His main research interests lie in the economic, social, mental and church history of the Middle Ages.

Hans-Jörg Gilomen is married to the historian Elsanne Gilomen-Schenkel .
