Hans-Jörg Himmel (born July 4, 1970 in Bochum ) is a German chemist and professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Life

After graduating from the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium in Bochum in 1989 , Himmel began studying chemistry at the University of Bochum in the 1989/90 winter semester , but soon moved to the University of Heidelberg . There he obtained his diploma in chemistry in 1994 with the grade very good . Himmel then worked as a doctoral student at the chair for physical chemistry at the University of Heidelberg under Christof Wöll and later went with him to the University of Bochum. In Bochum sky under Wölls care in February 1998 was summa cum laude to the Dr. rer. nat. PhD. He then worked until July 1998 as a research assistant at the Bochum Institute for Physical Chemistry. Himmel then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Inorganic Chemistry at Oxford University until September 2000 .

After returning to Germany in October 2000, he devoted himself to his habilitation, which he completed in April 2004 at the University of Karlsruhe . He then worked as a private lecturer in Karlsruhe for a year and a half before accepting a position as a lecturer for inorganic chemistry at Queen's College at Oxford University in October 2005 . In April 2006 he returned to Germany for a substitute professorship at Heidelberg University. Since October 2006, Himmel has been a full professor for inorganic chemistry at Heidelberg University.

research

In particular, Himmel is researching matrix isolation , vibrational spectroscopy and electronic excitation spectroscopy , molecular group 13 hydrides, coordination chemistry with redox-active ligands , guanidino- substituted aromatics as strong organic electron donors and finally material synthesis .
