Hans-Jürgen Lange (social scientist)

Hans-Jürgen Lange (* 1961 in Bochum ) is a German social scientist and has been President of the German Police University since July 1, 2014 . He succeeded Klaus Neidhardt .

Life

Hans-Jürgen Lange was born in Bochum in 1961. After studying social sciences with a focus on political science , he switched to the Fernuniversität Hagen as a doctoral candidate , where he received his doctorate in 1993 . In 1994, Lange moved to the Philipps University of Marburg as a research assistant . With the support of a habilitation grant from the German Research Foundation , Lange completed his habilitation in 1998 with a study on the political system of internal security in the Federal Republic, after which he was appointed private lecturer in political science at the Philipps University of Marburg. Between 1998 he held substitute professorships in Duisburg and Marburg, which was followed by a research professorship for political science at the University of Witten / Herdecke until 2003.

From 2004 he was an adjunct professor for political science at the Philipps University in Marburg. On July 1, 2008, he moved to the University of Witten / Herdecke, where he took over the professorship for political science, security research and security management.

On June 30, 2014, Ralf Jäger appointed Lange President of the German Police University with effect from the following day. This is the first time that a university professor has assumed the role of president.
