Hans-Jürgen Schaal (judge)

Hans-Jürgen Schaal (born December 29, 1947 in Berlin ) is a German lawyer and was a judge at the Federal Court of Justice from 2000 to 2013 .

Hans-Jürgen Schaal began his legal career in Berlin in 1975 after completing his legal training. There he was first used as a public prosecutor and judge , before he was appointed judge at the Berlin Regional Court in 1978 , where he was a member of a criminal chamber of the Regional Court. This was followed by a delegation to the Senate Department for Justice of the State of Berlin, where he was a consultant in the criminal law department. During this secondment he was appointed judge at the Superior Court. Later he was seconded to the Federal Court of Justice as a research assistant . In 1990 he became the presiding judge at the regional court in Berlin and until his appointment as federal judge he presided over various criminal chambers of the regional court, interrupted by a one-year secondment to the federal central register .

On October 11, 2000, he was appointed judge at the Federal Court of Justice and initially assigned to the 1st Criminal Senate of the Federal Court of Justice . The 1st Senate is responsible for revisions in criminal cases from Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. From 2001 he belonged to the 5th criminal division of the Federal Court of Justice . The 5th Criminal Senate is responsible, among other things, for revisions in criminal matters from the districts of the Higher Regional Court, the Brandenburg Higher Regional Court , the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court , the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court Bremen , the Higher Regional Court Dresden and the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court Hamburg . On January 31, 2013, Schaal retired.
